Elias Ojeda - Violin
In 1965, at the age of 15, Elias relocated to Acuña, Coahuíla, Mexico along with his older brother and family. It was then that his career in music began as he started taking vihuela and guitar lessons from his older brother. He was also determined to sing which soon led him to study solfeo under the direction of Maestro Juan Rodriguez. Almost immediately he began performing at local bars and restaurants with Mariachi Alma Nacionál as a vihuela player and vocalist. In 1968, at the age of 18, Elias began studying the violin with his older brother whose primary instrument was also the violin. One of the first public performances that he played for was accompanying Lucha Villa in concert. Because he had just started playing the violin, he felt somewhat intimidated but this was his inspiration to continue learning the violin. After many years of studying and performing, he became very proficient on the violin and was locally recognized for his amazing talent. One of Elias’s best assets is his beautiful voice. Since childhood, singing has been an important part of his life. He has a versatile style, precise control, and a broad ranged voice. He also feels that passing along mariachi music to the next generation is essential and has shown this by instructing violin and vocal workshops to students at many regional mariachi conferences. Elias has been a member of Mariachi Tenampa since it’s birth in 1971. He has dedicated his life to his musical career and is determined to continue playing as long as he possibly can. Some of his experiences as a mariachi musician have been providing musical accompaniment on stage for some of the world’s most famous Mexican artist. These artists include: Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Lucha Villa, Yolanda del Rio, Gerardo Reyes, Beatriz Adriana, Alicia Juarez, Juan Valentin, Chelo, Yesenia Flores, Ana Barbara, Maria de Lourdes, Lorenzo de Monteclaro, Paquita la del Barrio, Alberto Vasquez, Angeles Ochoa, Lalo Rodriguez, Ruben Rodriguez, Salvador Robledo, El Charro Avitia, Juan Mendoza, Juan Saizar, Arturo Solis, El Piporro, Fernando Casanova, Julio Aleman, David Reynoso, Eleazar "Chelelo" Garcia, Irma Dorantes, Sparx, Lorenzo Antonio and many other recognized New Mexican artists. |
